Pingdom alternatives with a free plan (and when to stay with Pingdom)

Pingdom has no free plan and starts around $18 a month for 10 checks. What you give up and gain by switching, compared feature by feature.

Pingdom, now part of SolarWinds, is one of the oldest names in website monitoring. It's known for multi-step transaction checks (log in, add to cart, check out) and real-user monitoring that measures how fast pages load for actual visitors. What it doesn't have is a free plan: synthetic monitoring starts at about $18 a month for 10 uptime checks (around $16.50 billed yearly), as of October 2026.

If you mainly need uptime checks, alerts and a status page, there are cheaper ways to get them.

Stay with Pingdom if…

You rely on transaction checks that click through a real user journey, or on real-user monitoring for page speed. Those are genuinely different products from simple uptime checks, and replacing them means adding a browser-testing tool.

Switch if…

Most of your checks are “does this URL return 200 and contain the right text?”. A keyword check catches the same failures for a fraction of the price, and an API assertion checks your endpoints return the right data, not just a response.
