Better Stack alternatives: when per-responder pricing is more than you need
Better Stack is excellent for on-call teams, and priced per person. A side-by-side comparison, and when a flat-priced monitor does the job for less.

Better Stack (formerly Better Uptime) is one of the most polished monitoring products around: uptime checks, on-call scheduling, phone and SMS alerts, incident management, status pages and logs in one place. It's also priced for that breadth. Paid plans are per responder, $34 a month each on monthly billing ($29 yearly), with monitors sold in blocks beyond the first 10.
For a team with a real on-call rotation, that can be money well spent. For a small team that mostly wants “tell us in Slack when the site is down, and give customers a status page”, it's often more than needed. Prices below are as of October 2026.

| Fastest checks | 30 seconds | 30 seconds (Pro) |

When Better Stack is the right choice
Pick Better Stack if you need built-in on-call rotations and escalation (“call Priya, and if she doesn't acknowledge in 5 minutes, call Sam”), phone calls included without another tool, or logs and uptime in the same product.
When a simpler tool is enough
Most small teams don't run formal on-call. They want alerts in Slack or Teams, maybe a push notification to whoever's around, and a status page customers can check. For that, paying per person is the expensive way to do it. Spot Downtime charges per workspace: 15 seats on Pro at $19 a month, and every plan includes website, API, DNS, TCP and ping checks, status pages and 12 alert integrations.
If you later need escalation, connect PagerDuty as an alert channel and keep the rest as is.

UptimeRobot
Big free plan, but personal use only since 2025; paid Team plan $46 a month for 100 monitors and 3 seats. Compare UptimeRobot.
PagerDuty plus a monitor
If on-call is the main need, a dedicated on-call tool combined with a cheaper monitor can be both more capable and cheaper than an all-in-one.
