Custom status page domains
Put your status page on an address your customers already trust, like
status.yourcompany.com. We issue and renew the HTTPS certificate for you. The Starter plan includes one custom domain; Pro includes one for every status page.Set up your domain
- In the app, open Status pages, then Domain on the page you want to move.
- Enter the domain, e.g.
status.yourcompany.com, and click Add domain. The dialog lists the DNS records to create. - Create those records at your DNS provider (where you bought the domain, or Cloudflare, Route 53 and so on).
- Wait for the dialog to show the domain as ready. It usually takes a few minutes, occasionally up to a day while DNS spreads. The certificate is issued automatically once the records are found.
DNS records
Most people use a subdomain. Use exactly the records the dialog shows; they're usually these:
| You're using | Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| A subdomain, e.g. status.yourcompany.com | CNAME | status | cname.vercel-dns.com |
| The root domain, e.g. yourcompany-status.com | A | @ | 76.76.21.21 |
Sometimes the dialog also asks for a TXT record, for example when the domain was used with another service before. Add it exactly as shown; it proves the domain is yours.
Many DNS providers want only the first part of the name (
status) and add your domain themselves. If yours shows the full name, enter status.yourcompany.com.Using Cloudflare
Set the record to DNS only (the grey cloud), not Proxied (orange). With the proxy on, the HTTPS certificate can't be issued and the domain stays pending.
What visitors see
https://status.yourcompany.comshows your status page. Its usual address on spotdowntime.com keeps working too.- Emails to status page subscribers link to your domain once it's ready.
- Other paths on your domain redirect to Spot Downtime's site, so the domain only ever shows your status page.
- An unpublished status page isn't served on its domain.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The domain stays pending | Check the records with the DNS lookup tool. Remove old A, AAAA or CNAME records for the same name, which conflict with the new one. |
| Certificate errors in the browser | Usually Cloudflare's proxy: switch the record to DNS only. Otherwise wait a few minutes after the domain shows ready. |
| "That domain is already used by another status page" | A domain can serve one status page. Remove it from the other page first. |
| The Domain button says to upgrade | Custom domains are on Starter (one) and Pro (every page). On Starter, another page may already use the one included. |
| The page stopped working after a plan change | Moving to a plan with fewer custom domains detaches the newest ones. Upgrade, then add the domain again. |
Removing a domain
Open Domain on the status page and click Remove domain. The page goes back to its spotdowntime.com address right away. You can then delete the DNS records.
