Spot Downtime with GitHub Actions
Schedule a maintenance window when a deploy starts, so a restart isn't counted as downtime or alerted, and get told when a scheduled workflow stops running.
Quiet deploys
A maintenance window pauses checks on the monitors you choose and resumes them automatically.
Check right after deploying
Run a check as the last step to confirm the release is up.
Watch scheduled workflows
Add a heartbeat ping to a cron-triggered workflow and hear about it if a run is missed.
Set it up
- 1Create a read & write API key under Settings → API keys and save it as a repository secret named SPOT_DOWNTIME_API_KEY.
- 2Add your workspace and monitor IDs as repository variables.
- 3Add the step below before your deploy step.
yaml
- name: Pause monitoring during the deploy
env:
KEY: ${{ secrets.SPOT_DOWNTIME_API_KEY }}
run: |
curl -fsS -X POST "https://spotdowntime.com/api/v1/workspaces/${{ vars.SPOT_DOWNTIME_WORKSPACE_ID }}/maintenance" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $KEY" -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d "{\"title\": \"Deploy ${GITHUB_SHA::7}\", \"starts_at\": \"$(date -u +%FT%TZ)\", \"ends_at\": \"$(date -u -d '+15 minutes' +%FT%TZ)\", \"monitor_ids\": [\"${{ vars.SPOT_DOWNTIME_MONITOR_ID }}\"]}"More developer integrations
