Heartbeat monitoring for cron jobs
Add one line to the end of a cron job, backup script, Kubernetes CronJob or scheduled function. If the ping doesn't arrive on time, you're alerted.

Call a private URL with curl, wget or any HTTP client. No agent or library.
Grace periods
Allow for jobs that run long: you're only alerted once the expected time plus the grace period has passed.
Report failures
Call the URL with /fail to mark the job down straight away when it errors.
