DNS monitoring that notices before email and websites break

A deleted MX record stops your email; a changed A record sends visitors somewhere else. Spot Downtime resolves your records on a schedule and alerts you if a lookup fails or an expected value goes missing.

DNS example.com · A via 1.1.1.1

✕ expected A record "203.0.113.10", got 198.51.100.7

An A record that was changed

Every common record type

A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT and NS, including SPF and verification records.

Expected values

List the values that must be present. If any one is missing, you get an alert showing what came back instead.

Your choice of resolver

Use the system resolver or a public one such as 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8.

How to set it up

  1. 1Click Add monitor and choose DNS.
  2. 2Enter the domain and pick the record type.
  3. 3Optionally list the values you expect, one per line, and a resolver.
  4. 4Save. The first lookup runs within seconds.

Questions

Can I paste a full URL?
Yes. Spot Downtime takes the domain from it, so https://www.example.com/path becomes www.example.com.
Why use a specific resolver?
To see what a particular public resolver returns, for example right after you change records, instead of relying on whatever the server uses by default.
